  • Spinach and lettuce

Hi all. I am attempting to grow perpetual spinach this year for the first time. As I have problems with slugs and clay soil, I tend to start everything off in pots. Is this possible with spinach or does it need to be sown direct? I'm also going to try lettuce, but again these would need to be sown in pots as getting my soil to a fine tilth is nigh on impossible and if I did manage it I know the slugs would eat anything coming through. Any help greatly appreciated

I sow lettuce into modules every time, to keep the slugs off the seedlings. In fact I sow everything into modules except root veg

So yeah, they should be fine.

As already said, grow it in modules, much easier.

Another quick questions, would these crops need rotating as for other veg? There is only one spot in my garden which would be suitable for these where it wouldn't get too hot for them to bolt

First off, perpetual isn't spinach at all, it's beet. Beetroot-related.
So, rotate it with your beetroot.
