  • Spinach - Advice please

I sowed some spinach in individual cells (is that what them tray thingys are called??) but I wasn't sure how much actual spinach you get from each plant??? I'm not looking to supply Tesco or anything, but just enough to get a few meals out of it. I've got 8 plants that've come through but I wasn't sure if I should start some more off

When harvesting if you start picking leaves on the outside of the plant, the inner leaves will then continue to grow and produce a new crop. Hope this helps

I suppose it depends on the variety. Some could produce more leaves than others.

We have sown about 60-70 seeds in all in the veg beds.
Our kids love eating spinach leaves raw or in salads and sandwiches so we thought that we would grow enough.

As M & L says it depends on the variety. My neighbouring lottie has spinach and it is about 2.5 ft tall with big leaves and the inner tender leaves aren't much smaller. I have sown a perpetual beet spinach and the leaves are quite small round ones like the prepack stuff you get in Tesco.(which is what I wanted) The point being that the yields from the two different plants is miles apart. 8 plants from the next door lottie would supply Tesco, on the other hand the small round leaf type will probably require sucessional sowing.
