i would really like to plant out my onion set as well as sowing leeks and parsnips this weekend but after looking at next weeks forecast im very undecided in what to do. over night temps are set to be -5. what are the rest of gyo ers doing

Just recently sowed a few lines of white icicle Radish (about a week ago) and they are staring to come up. But everything else it being started under cover, even my carrots, (I always do them in a barrel and put a cover of glass over them).http://theallotmentplot.weebly.com/index.html

The only reason I've got some shallots in is that I found them in the compost and they hadn't rotted, so I stuck them in the ground. They may or they may not rot, we'll see.Comment

I will wait until the middle of May. Usually, I cover the ground with cloches or enviromesh to warm the soil one or two weeks before sowing. I have Aqua Claudia broad beans in an unheated greenhouse, they are doing well, but they are quite hardy. Tomatoes and other stuff on the windowsills.Comment

i have my parsnips in under a cloche, carrots in under glass, garlic in the greenhouse growing well, pea's are also growing in the greenhouse, and my celeriac is just started to produce a 3rd leaf they are being nursed indoors. i am impatient gardener and always go plant to early i just cant stop myself, i listen out for the weather forecast and i know the weather is rubbish but i still go on planting, also my onions is in and 3 rows of early potatoes, i know it makes no difference to planting early as everything catches up and grows and the same rate, my sister always waits and plants later then me and we produce goodies at the same time. so my advice is wait. I've got nothing outside as yet, except what was planted in autumn. I've sown peas and leeks and cabbages indoors, and started trying to harden them off yesterday but then it snowed and is going to be for the rest of the week, so I may end up having to re-sow some because they're getting very leggy

I sowed some spring onions in a container in January, it was under a plastic cover which got shredded by the wind, so no protection since the beginning of Feb. Today I saw the little green hooks coming through. The salad leaves and radish are also showing, with the same growing conditions, so I decided to risk a few beetroot and radish seeds into the ground. I've plenty of both, so I will resow if they don't show. Mind you I'm further south so probably warmer, though it still seems pretty cold to me.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!
Now a little Shrinking Violet.

The nearest I've got to sowing seeds outside are the carrot, pak choi and turnips that are sown in the gh borders at the lottie , and they are also fleeced . I have got a few rocket tatties in (under cardboard) , broadies (under a cloche) and shallots (under fleece) . Everything else is dotted around at home in various places and stages of being hardened off.S*d the housework I have a lottie to dig

The only things that are in the garden are Kale and leeks from last year everything else is either in the GH or on window sills indoors and I can't see things altering for a few weeks yet.Location....East Midlands.Comment
