  • Show me the way to go Loam...

Well, I've been doing some investigations, following the hints in various books I am devouring, and all give instructions how to assess your soil structure and PH.

I apparently have loamy soil with a PH of 7.0.

What the books omit is any explanation of what the information means or where I go next.

Simple question: will this soil be okay for most veg, or is there something I should do?

Oh well, at least one thing has gone right so far!

I've acquired 1.5 tons of all purpose compost at a silly price, and have scrounged a couple of tons of rotted horse manure. I was thinking of filling the beds with equal measures of manure, compost and soil. Is that about right, or is it overkill on the organic matter?

Depends on the size of the area and what the land was used for before now.!!!!

Great soil, you're lucky. Re the bed filling, remember carrots etc don't like recently manured bed so you might want to think about your plan before you fill

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
