  • Short Report from Seed Swap

(Please move if in wrong place, I wasnt really sure where to put it )

I have never been to a seed swap before, but have seen them advertised, just never plucked up courage to go.
Anyway, today was the second day of the Southampton Seed swap, it was housed on the top floor of the Arts Cafe, which is a charity run cafe to enable arts people to have a place to meet up etc. (Its vegetarian and organic too.)
I had originally planned to go yesterday, but with the Saints/pompey match at the same time, and the police shutting all exits to the city, I decided to brave the irregular bus service and rain today instead.

One table was the seed swap run by Garden organic, unfortunately most things had gone today including some Sopra (sp) seeds potatoes I would have liked to swap for my ones. However managed to swap some seeds for a few I wanted and did swap my seed spuds for some strawberry plants (3)

Also present was the Southampton Allotment association who I had a very interesting chat with about allotment waiting lists. He recommended I contact the council and ask to be moved to another allotment waiting list, which has current vacancies (!) which I shall do first thing tomorrow. He also told me about various meetings - all sound good and interesting. I managed to buy a small bay from them along with some herbs, all very reasonably priced.

Another stall was selling organic seeds, and looked very interesting but they wanted £1.50 - £4 a packet, which I think was abit steep.
The last stall was run by October books, selling - er books on gardening, ethical living etc.
My daughter (who is now a very enthusiastic gardener) enjoyed swapping my seeds for some flowers (which I know will be devoured by slugs!!) and talking to the stall holders, she sowed a pumpkin seed as the kids table.
It was really fun, interesting and I will definately go next year (although maybe on day one!! ()

I would recommend anyone else to go to one aswell.
