  • seedy holiday question

just wondered if any grapes have experience of buying seeds abroad and bringing them home? e.g. Are seeds cheaper/more expensive in e.g. France and Italy than similar types here, or from e.g. Seeds of Italy? And if they ARE worth buying over there (climate considerations aside), any recommended varieties/brands/excitements?
    Thank you...

Haven't bought any personally BR but have had some tom seeds as a gift from the Canaries, they still grew ok so no real difference with the climate. Then again what we grow in the greenhouse, they can grow outside.

It think that technically it can be against the law but not sure on that one.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Seeds are O.K. it's plants that you are not allowed to bring in. If you find a friendly gardener/farmer they might let you have some self saved seeds of types that you can't buy now thanks to E.U. legislation.

BR, if you see fruit or veg in the supermarket, buy one & if poss save the seeds. Nothing to lose, everything to gain or am I wrong in suggesting that.

I was very excited to see lots of seeds for sale in Barcelona, but on closer inspection they were all what we can get here, and not very cheap. I think I paid 1euro for 'white' courgettes, that's all I thought was worth the journey back home

My daughter brought me tomato seeds from Spain that I grew last year outside. Lovely beef ones they were.

I'm an onion freak and I have bought onion seeds in France and in Italy. Wasn't sure if they would grow up here because of the difference in climate but they did ok.

We were in Tennessee and I dragged my poor OH around endless amount of Garden Centre and Farmers Co Ops. Came back with lots of cheap and interesting seeds (especially toms and pumpkins/squash) - I almost hyperventilated when I found a rack of 10 cent seed packets in Walmart.

Everything in America comes in brown paper bags so you'd have been ok for your Hyperventilation..........

I'm so glad my title innuendo didn't go unnoticed...thanks for tips everyone. So true about being able to understand the instructions. But damn you're right re: EU regulations - I'd much rather have something unregulated and exciting. But I spose that's what Real Seeds etc. are for. I was hoping you'd all type with one accord 'oh yes seeds are GREAT over there, just like Seeds of Italy but half the price etc etc' but that was pitiful fantasy, I see it now...
