  • seed spuds in herts/middsx/essex area?

i realise i'm a little early in asking this question, but wondered if there are people in these areas that know of garden centers that sell individual seed potatoes.
i grow just for me mainly and want to have a few variety of spuds next yr but dont think i need huge bags of seed spud that you buy via catalogues or in gc's. there must be somewhere around here that sells individually?. i know a few of the centers in Crews Hill, but dont know if they sell individually as i didnt have my allotment early last yr.
    any help greatly received.

p.s. i have seen the info for a potato day in suffolk on valentines day next yr and will go if i cant find anything closer.

They only seem to sell by the bag as far as I know. You might have better luck asking on the seed swop nearer the time, I'm sure people would let you have one or two for an SAE? Or buy a bag and exchange with friends/ad on Freecycle?
Actually I think T&M may do bags of 5 tubers by mail order?

Hi there try ebay, thats where i got my seed potatoes from, i think they were 5 pounds for 10 seed potatoes. They were from a garden centre in preston. They came by mail order. I have only used 5 of them so far, the others are in a dark cupboard which is cool inside the box they came in. My potatoes have been in and out of my garage in the potato barrell everyday, as i dont want them water logged, when its too wet i even put the lights on in the garage during the day so they get some light. Im hoping they will be ready for xmas. I did chit them for 6wks prior to planting. They have so far produced 12 little potato flower storks, so im hoping im doing somethig right as this is my first time growing spuds. I do water them once a week with tomato feed also. So once again i'm rambling on. Kind regards judith.

T&M do do 5-packs on some varieties.
It may be worth teaming up with some local friends or fellow allotmenteers and ordering a few varieties to share between you??

That reminds me, there's a shop near here that sold seeds individually for Xmas potatoes. They sold me 2 charlotte seed spuds (which are growing away nicely) - I don't know if they did it earlier in the year as I didn't discover this particular place until a few months ago. It is an independent GC - suspect the smaller, independents are maybe more likely to offer this so maybe it's worth seeing if there are such places near you?

Or why not ask someone in your area if they would like to share an order with you - perhaps 3-4 of you could split the order and postage if space limited and/or need small?
