  • Seed saving crossing question. :)

This year I think I've done something daft with my seed saving and only just realised that there may be a problem...

I attempted to get seed from chard, celeriac, celery and parsley. Unfortunately I forgot about the crossing thing.

Am I correct that the both the celery and the celeriac will have crossed with each other? Also, will the parsley have crossed with the celery to create something weird, or will the parsley seed be pure and the celery seed a wee bit done in?

I abandoned the chard due to trying to let four plants go to seed in the space of half a metre squared. It was a jungle out there by the time they all shot past 6ft tall!

Yup - chard and beetroot do go a bit mental - like very long dreadlocks and take ages to go brown.

And yup - all 3 celeriac, celery and parsley have probably crossed as they are all the same family [Apiaceae]...presuming that they all flowered at the same time.

Thanks, good to know for sure! I definitely had one of those moments when I looked at them and thought... hang on a minute! Spose on the plus side I have managed to remove them now before they self seeded at least!

Was sneezing something chronic at the chard - never seen a plant produce that much pollen!
