I planted out my second earlies in during the middle of April, they have been in the ground for nearly five weeks and no sign of any growth above the ground. It has been cold and wet, very cold and very wet in Durham. Do folks think they have rotted and I should start again?

Dig down to where you planted them and see what's happening. -
Mine took 12 to 14 weeks to show, I had ridged up straight after planting so I plan on six weeks before they show but the ground has been very cold, have you any volunteers starting to appear if so your spuds wont be far behind them.Comment

Mine are only *just* showing.. planted in a hole made about 2' deep on St Patricks Day (or roundabout then).Comment

Ah, my chooks use that for toilet paper (ya know, I've heard that in past times people did too! Inky botties?).
If I get another egg in the morning btw, VC you should have a delivery tomorrow :] (wife used the ones I'd set aside!!).
Anyway, yep I'd have a careful dig down - but do be careful, as the shoots/halums are so easy to snap when they're coming up through the ground.Comment

I planted mine about 5 weeks ago. Went down to the plot last Friday before my op. Some were up but not that many. Earthed up anyway.Comment
