Rudolph aren't so new either. I got some several years ago in an English supermarket and planted them in a friend's garden in Slovakia. I didn't have my own garden back then. They grew well, and were very exciting to dig up because their skins were such a beautiful red colour. Not quite my kind of spuds for eating though. Not floury enough and a bit bland tasting.

The best place to check out potato varieties is the Potato Council Variety Database. If you haven't already checked it out you'll be amazed at the amount of information there is.

I agree, that's a great potato database solway cropper. There's also an excellent European one here which I often consult The European Cultivated Potato Database

I use a mix of six scoops of compost three scoops of sand/grit and two scoops of perlite, the quantity is unimportant as long as the ratio is the same, if for seeds I use this mix, if I am potting on I add some blood, fish and bone, along with a small quantity of chicken manure pellets
