Can I sow chard in modules or rootrainers to plant out when the space is available? Tried to use 'search' but nothing helpful came up

You certainly can - it's very similar to beetroot in that you may get a few plants per "seed".

Yep, as Rusty Lady says, you can get multiples as the seeds are a cluster, so I find putting them in modules allows you to space out the clumps a bit.

I sow my chard in modules now and slip it in wherever I find a free spot... I have started keeping two module trays full of different seedlings all the time and it seems to be working fine for chard, beetroot, pak choi, tatsoi & round lettuces. My reason for doing this is because my space is very limited, so if a slug decides to eat one of my seedlings I have another ready to transplant in its place!

Great. I have been out and done just that.
Germinator, I always sow beetroot that way so I can pop them in where there is a space.

I think the only things I don't module are carrots and parsnips, everything else seems to adapt.

I did mine in modules - stuck it in the borders in the garden, looks really striking once the stems start to fatten up. Shame about all the slug holes in it!

This lot is for the chickens, the next lot I'm going to sow soon is for us.

I sow multiple seeds per module, with beetroot it's worked really well - they're fattening up and pushing each other apart..

Yes I do chard in modules a lot - they grow well and are ready to go out when you want
I had too much last year - overwintered well, but bolted before we could eat it all, so I'm cutting back a bit this summer, but will still grow some for overwintering again under the "portable plant protector" (mini-polytunnel)

I've found it is more prone to bolting when sown in modules though so this year have sown direct.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
