    Radishes!!

    Have i done something really silly

    I was given some radish seeds and not knowing what to do with them i sowed them in a seed tray.
    They are all doing really well but what do i do with them now?
    Do i pot them on and then harden off,do i put them out or should i have sown them directly into the ground in the first place

    why not try thinning them out so you have some in the tray and put some in pots I saw them growing in the the garden centre in large 8" pots and they looked happy I think radish are hardy little chaps. Did you see Alys Fowler talking about letting them go to seed I think she said you could eat the seed pods if all goes wrong...

      Radishes are such a cheap and easy thing to sow and grow - you can afford to abuse the seedlings I reckon.
      Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

          Radish are quite good to sow directly in ground as you sow a slower growing crop, fill space and mark the line.

          You can let radishes go to seed, Munchein Beir and Rat's Tails supposed to be two of the best - as the name sounds Germans eat them as nibbles with beer

          Can also leave in seed tray and grow as cut and come again radish leaves, the larger rooted ones are best for this.

            tried those blue german radishs last year,took longer ,grew bigger,tasted fine,just seemed strange to see that colour on the plate..

              Don't bother potting up Radishes, just bung them into the ground in rows/blocks. They grow really easy and you can get several crops of them outside during the summer. Sow them as a successional crop in any bit of space you have.... don't treat them as precious, they are dead easy to grow.

              Just don't let them go to seed if you want to eat them as they get woody and incredibly hot.

                radish should be harvested immediately once they are mature, if left in the ground for long they will get woody outside and hollow from inside and the taste will also differ..

                  I've always been rubbish at radishes, but I sowed some a couple of weeks ago and they are growing like stink!

                    Can you do that with any radish? I thought it was just the rats tail ones? I've some scarlet globe in at the mo, may let a couple run to seed if that's the case!

                      Yep, they will all run to seed, I've just been told that the larger roots taste better, but you've not much to loose by leaving a few, radish won't be edible. Going to let a few seed this year, but mine are so sluggish getting going.

                          OK...now I have a vision of Carol in the garden shouting at her radish's

                          I'd transplant some in to the garden or large pot's.

                              my first year at trying GYO and my radishes are doing superb i started off in pots and just thinned some out into separate pots and now all looking very well... infact i picked 1 tonight only been in few weeks i think and it was perfect !!
