    Question about Cherokee Trail of Tears

    I am growing these for the first time this year, thus far with mixed success.
    They took an age to germinate, they are now growing nicely up my 'wigwam' but have not yet flowered ... can just see one or two flower buds. I am picking beans from my other beans - climbing and dwarf frenchies and runners and they were all planted at pretty much the same time. Is this normal? Do I need to give anything extra to the CToT? They are in a flower bed where they get sun for at least half the afternoon. The ground was well composted before planting. I watered and mulched during the dry spell. I would be grateful for any advice. Maybe I should just be more patient? Thanks folks.

    I've grown them for 3 or so years now, First year they shot away, 2nd year they did the same as yours sort of, this year, they've shot away again, with loads of beans on them and already harvested.

    I don't know what the answer is tbh, I thought I always have treated them the same, I think something to do with the soil, they seem to like lots of humus and they then aren't worried about the amount of water they get.
    I think they also really hate cold or high winds.

      Do they only get a few hours sun a day then?
      That could well be your problem. Mine are in full sun (13+ hours a day)

        I grow 3 types of climbing Frenchies most years and the CToT are often slightly later to start producing than the Blue Lake which are usually first. If the plants are healthy and they're starting to flower then they should be OK and may fruit longer into the autumn if you're lucky and it's mild

        Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

        Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

          i planted mine in a large tub and have been harvesting them for a while now.
          i only gave them a little feed last week but they are in full sun so it might be that yours are not getting enough sun.

            Thanks everyone, it could well be a sun thing then. Although the bed they are in is nominally South east facing it is shaded in the morning and later in the afternoon so it only gets direct sun for maybe 5 hours. Bad choice of location! That'll larn me as my Grandad used to say. If I get anything from them, I'll save the seed and do better next time.
