  • Pruning potato foliage?

    Hi guys,

    Just a very quick question:

My main crop potato plants are enchroaching onto other crops in areas of my garden. They are just starting to flower. If I prune the foliage back a little (just at the sides) will this affect the potatoes too much?

    Many thanks,

Can you tie them up so they stand upright? They need all the leaves they can get to photosynthesize and produce the potatoes. I put a few canes or twiggy sticks around the pots or tubs and loop string around as they grow. If you can tie them up try and have help 'cos the stems are quite brittle and a 2nd pair of hands can support them while you wrap and fasten.

Much better than cutting it off.
