  • Potatoes outgrown grow bag? Help?

So i only have a balcony so i chose to grow some potatoes (maris piper i think) in a grow bag/sack thing. Now the plants themselves are like 2-3 foot out of the bag and i cant put anymore soil in. Will this ruin the pots? Are they ready to come out? I planted them the 2nd week in march.

The leaves and stems still looks very green, and they have flower buds on them but no flowers yet. How long should i wait? Or should i dig down and see whats going on?

That all sounds very normal to me. The plants probably won't get much bigger if they are starting to flower, and the foliage may flop over but I would leave them where they are until after they have flowered, and preferably until the foliage has begun to die back. The longer you leave them the more and bigger potatoes you will get. Keep them well watered, and they will benefit from a feed now and again.

I use a mix of six scoops of compost three scoops of sand/grit and two scoops of perlite, the quantity is unimportant as long as the ratio is the same, if for seeds I use this mix, if I am potting on I add some blood, fish and bone, along with a small quantity of chicken manure pellets
