    Potatoes in "new ground"

    Last year i lifted a thin strip of turf and planted a row of PSB . These have just about finished now .

    Can I lift more turf to make a proper bed and plant my seed potatoes or will the soil be full of nasties that will eat my Potatoes ? I thought I could dig it over, leave it for a few days for the birds to have a feast, then plant.

    I was going to grow them in bags/sacks but I'm spending a fortune on compost and it does seem a bit daft not to use the ground!

    What do you think? I just don't want to end up with a ruined crop!

    The first thing i did with my new veg patch was bung tatties in it, i have heavy clay soil & they helped break it up a treat. Weren't bothered by many nasties either, i say get 'em in!

      Can't see any reason why not. Put a bit of muck in the bottom and rake it in then the spuds have something they like to dip their feet in
