HI. 4 Bags of assorted spuds in g/house at minute. Is it too early to bring onto uncovered patio?

It's impossible to say, bearing in mind we have no idea where you are!

You don't want any growth to be above the soil level before the last frost date in your area.

      Dragline,

perhaps you might amend your profile to show your location .

Even if you are in the far south of England it is too early to have potatoes out in the open. Plenty time to be thinking about this in early to mid march. Up here in Aberdeen, we are about a month behind that.

        Yes

I leave mine in the greenhouse until May, and often even until June (by which time they will probably be ready if they are first early). If it gets very hot in May they can get uncomfortable, in which case I move them outside.

Presumably you want them "early" if they are in bags? If so give them the benefit of the extra warmth of the greenhouse.

If your greenhouse is unheated, and we get a cold snap, you should consider brining them indoors for the night if there is any chance that the inside of the greenhouse will fall to close to freezing, or below (although they will tolerate some cold if their leaves are not above the soil)

I've got bags and containers of compost warming up in the greenhouse at the moment. If the weather stays fairly frost free I might get the first earlies planted by the end of this month but they'll stay in the greenhouse until I'm fairly sure the frosts are past. It's just not worth the risk of losing the crop to put them outside too early.
