  • Possible Shallot Problem??

Some of my shallots leaves(or whatever they are called??) have gone yellow? They all have very good groth but over the last week some have gone yellow and witherd? Could this be due to the recent frosts? Will the pick back up or is it an onset of a bigger problem?

    Pictures to follow.

    Many Thanks.

Wouldn't think frost would have bothered them much.
Have you watered them, we haven't had much rain at all of late.
Expect the worst in life and you will probably have under estimated!

Have a little tug of one; sometimes that's the sign of white rot. If it comes away really easily and has white fluffy stuff near the roots; then it's white rot. If it resists then give them a water with seaweed extract or a sprinkle of BFB and water in.

It looks like they could do with a damn good weeding.

Apart from that, maybe nitrogen deficiency. It's possible that the weeds might be out competing them for nitrogen.

When did you plant them out? Shallots planted out from sets in early september/ october will be finishing soon.
