There are Autumn and Spring planting varieties but I find the best results come from Autumn sown garlic.
Mine are already in ...now is a good time to start for a June crop.

I have some garlic in now, last year I planted a couple of bulbs about now and an other in Feb/March the over wintered ones gave a good crop but the later one didn't grow to well and didn't split into cloves just one bulb

it may be a struggle to reach the top, but once your over the hill your problems start.

Trying elephant garlic this year. I have two cloves and this thread has reminded me I must get them planted.

Last year I had 3 heads of marco. One was split and planted in Autumn, one planted as a whole bulb then split and replanted in spring and the third was stored till spring then split and planted. Theautumn split were thr best.

This year my garlics have been in for a few weeks and are poking up nicely. The elephant garlic is about 6" tall already.

I bought a lot of cheap garlic in Spring that should have been planted in autumn. They grew but did very little so I've left them to grow for another year - as an experiment of course!
