I have just planted a tub of peas specifically for pea shoots for salads. I have planted the seeds closer together than I would for growing fully. I wondered if pea shoots will re-grow after being cut?

I grow them all year round using ordinary dried peas you know the sort you soak to make mushy peas, its around 2 to 3 weeks between cuts.

I cut mine down and yes they regrow. I absolutely ram mine on top of the compost and add a further light sieving. Fm they stay in my greenhouse for forcing really and I chop when they reach four inches. I keep two containers for peas and two for leaves.Look deep into nature, and then you will understand everything better...Albert Einstein

I've only just discovered Alys Fowler and I watched that episode the other night and thought she said cut and come again. She's great. Is she doing anything currently? I just love her whole lifestyle approach.Likac66

Only just back as far as the first set of leaves with tendrils (images here). That way the the pea should still be able to produce enough energy to regrow.
You can only get 2 or 3 harvests from a single batch before they go stringy and start to lose taste.
Dead simple to grow just get a buy whole dried peas from a supermarket, soak for 24 hours (Leo peas need either a little longer or warm water as they are really dry), put in a container with about 1inch of compost, cover with a little more compost and wait.
Try to avoid letting the compost dry out as the peashoots will go stringy and taste a bit off, if it happens just give them a good watering and don't harvest for a few days.
I normally do about half a pint glass of them at a time which fills two full sized seed trays.Comment
