My pak choi have been doing really well, not very big yet but they are going to seed. Why would that be.

I think they run to seed if you sow them early, Jackie. Try re- sowing some and they should be ok. In the meantime you can eat the flower stems as well.Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to? -

You mean sow them after Mid June Zaz ? I have sown some in the greenhouse and they are tiny plants so will put them out as well. Then sow some more seeds.
OH and daughter like to have noodles when he cooks tea in the week, if I have worked all day and then have to go again same night. He adds pak choi amoung other things, tis a favourite of theirs.Gardening ..... begins with daybreak

They are a cold crop and like alot of brassicas, will bolt before midsummer. If you sow them after 22nd June [mid June in reality] they shouldn't bolt. And sow little and often so that you have a longer season.

I think they just go to seed full stop. For the last five years I've tried every possible combination of sowing time, planting technique and everything else I could think of. End result: zilch.Originally posted by Jeanied View Post

Hmmm - I had a really good crop a couple of years ago, sown once I lifted my first early spuds. Then they ran to seed because I missed picking them all

My 3 pak choi plants seem to be making a little comeback. Hope it keeps up as there isn't much to eat atm. I need to plant many, many more next year.Ali

I have quite a few pak choi plants just started growing, did not realise I had planted them a bit early.
But not to worry as I had planned to plant a few more rows after a bit, so I might hang on a bit

They do love to bolt....
Even my Winter sown ones bolted on me this year...
I think they like to taunt me....I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives....
