over-wintering beans

Yes, I sow broad beans for overwintering in my greenhouse and plant them out in spring. I grow mine in individual 3" pots. Are you thinking of planting them out or leaving themin the buckets?

I don't think it is worth doing the runner beans, they are less hardy than broad beans and may not survive.

thought i would leave them in the buckets, so was only going to sow a couple per bucket.

Great ideas - NOW - a BIG question!!
PLEASE could someone tell me how to start a new thread? I've searched everywhere for the button to do so, but can't find it anywhere.
I looked in FAQ and that simply told me to use this unfindable button. Is there a way I could have lost it - along with the gardens of Heligan, perhaps...

SECONDLY - I think I have done the unforgiveable and put some old tomato plants on the compost which may have already been affected by a little bit of blight - not badly so but...

Any help for questions 1 or 2 would be greatly appreciated - and I apologise for mucking up this thread with my other questions

I'd try and sow a few more than a couple in a bucket, I reckon you could get away with about 6.

Go to one of the main forum pages and there's a green box on the left towards the top saying NEW THREAD

Start anew thread from the forum you wish to post in, at the top left there should be a New thread button.

I wouldn't worry about the blight on the compost bin, the spores most likely won't survive.

I'm still struggling with the new thread button though. I tried going to different forums e.g. 'on the plot' and still can't find a new thread button at the top left -or anywhere else!
Is there an administrator I can contact?

Getting back to the whole broad beans in bucket theme - when do you sow them?

Do you then plant them out after last frosts?

was hoping to keep them in the buckets, so have planted out 4 in each bucket. 1st year of overwintering so here goes......

Am I right in saying you care for bean shoots all over winter to plant in spring ?
How is this beneficial to starting them of in say march or April ?

Because you get to harvest the beans a month earlier than spring sown beans. If you also sow in spring then you can get two crops of beans.

But cannot you sow in spring and get a succession crop of beans later ?
Much the same as you do peas.
