the onions i planted last year have started getting the signs of flowers forming, some have swelled in the last month, what should i do? leave them or pull them? thanks

I would leave the onions to continue maturing but cut off low down any flower stalks once any appear. The onions which had flower stalks will have a little bit of green in the middle of the onion which is edible and not a problem. If you have lots of onions and intend storing them these onions which had the flower stalk will not store well so use these onions first.Last edited by cheops; 03-07-2016, 06:57 PM. -
When you say planted last year do you mean Autumn sown over wintering ones or ones that didn't really grow much last summer? If it's the former then it's cropping time anyway so you might as well pull them up as I find when one starts to bolt the others often follow. If it's ones from last summer then they're doing what they're supposed to do and setting seed in their second year.
