  • onion sets

    Hi

My onions from last year were a mixture of ok and poor, so there were some small onions.
My question is are those small onions ok to plant in a few weeks, just like I will be planting my onion sets.
And would medium sized onions get even bigger?

I have found that the small onions replanted don't grow much but run to seed - which is pretty I suppose. I always pickle my small onions at the end of a season, so never bother to grow pickling onions from a packet as i know I will always have some small onions to pickle instead.

i had 1 or 2 year before last, replanted them and they split up into a few other salad like ones, then go to seed, but will never grow to be any bigger,i would say, depends what room you have, plant them for an experiment of your own,

Onions are biennial plants, that is they grow a bulb first year and then produce a flower head the second, (as the previous posts have reported).

Thanks all, still eating them, maybe give some away because a few are starting to spout.
