  • Onion sets - Wilkos? Poundland??

I need to get my onion sets - I got some in spring from either Wilkos or Poundland, can't remember which - and it's a bit of a pain to get to either from here, so to save me a lot of driving around, does anyone know if Wilkos / Poundland have onion sets in?

Do you need to get them from Wilko's or Poundland? There's plenty available on ebay for the same sort of price
What do you get if you divide the circumference of a pumpkin by its diameter?
    Pumpkin pi.

Wilko's website says they're currently unavailable. I've seen some in Homebase.

Is this some sort of elaborate ruse on behalf of the onion seed industry? I can't even begin to imagine that onions from seed can be better than from sets. Cheaper? Yes. Insanely frustrating, and make you feel like a failure as a gardener? Hell yes!

In other news, i have seen sets in every garden centre i have been to over the past few weeks, and have also seen them in my local Waitrose and Sainsburys. But not the pound shops, as they only seem to do gardening stuff Start of Feb > May around these parts.

I'm trying seeds and sets this year, must admit I've never had great onions from either!

Planted half of my onion sets out in the last few days.
Copied Veggichicken and started a tray sitting the roots in modules just sitting in water and started the rest in soil in modules.
I will be watching to see how they will perform.

You will find yourself a partner,
In the glory of the garden.

i normally start all my onions from sets in seed trays of compost - no time this autumn so they've gone straight in the ground
i made it to wilkos yesterday and they had 3 or 4 varieties, plus shallots ....
