  • Oak leaves as mulch?

Probably a stupid question but is there any reason not to use dry leaves directly around plants to hold in moisture while they are becoming leaf mould.
No matter:the allotment is lovely, the tadpoles have legs, my sea kale has germinated and I am glad to be home.

That's what made me think of it- I leave the leaves where they fall in beds but have many more under oak tree that I intended to make a cage for. Lots of my beds do not get much in the way of leaf fall.
