It came out this afternoon for an hour or so, so I took advantage of it...thermometer was reading about 6 degrees...

Now the snow has Gone..!

The soil was so friable I wished it were March or April so I could get things going before it goes hard.

Now the snow has gone it's chucking it down with rain. Has been all day. I did notice yesterday afternoon that the snowdrops and crocuses are showing their leaves, so hopefully Spring is just round the corner.

Now the snow has gone I got straight out into the garden to start the raised beds. Shifted the barbie away and moved the lights ready for the clearing. I didn't recall laying a 4" concrete base beneath the slabs for the barbie area and it took me an age to break up and move

. When I build stuff it generally stays built !!

I have got some recycled fence posts from a house builder near me and some 8' scaffold boards which are a full 6cm thick. They are rejects now due to use and the 20 I bought bent my roofrack so don't think thay will be blowing away anytime soon.

Oh dear I am over engineering it all again, but can't knock the recycled wood

Peanut the wonder dog was helping until she went inside and left muddy paw prints all over the cream rugs, got a telling off for that

Anyway progress so far....

It poured most of the day today! Any sun would be good!
Had a delivery of 3 cu mtrs of farm manure today. Looking forward to a day of muck shifting tomorrow when the weather is supposed to be better. - Perhaps not!!
1st year on allotment, got it in August when weeds were high and the ground was dry! 1/3 of it is waterlogged from rain and melted snow, looks like I'll be building some raised beds soon.
I wonder how long I'll have to wait for it to dry out enough so I can get back to working the plot!

You had a busy day then..?..did you lay your concrete..?..going to try and do some digging tomorrow if the weather is ok and prepare for the early spuds..!

Yea, I was the muppet who laid it 4" thick so I could stand the a lightweight barbie on it !!! More to go tomorrow under the brick edge of the lawn, but as they say no pain no gain

Didn't see the sun but only had heavy showers so did manage a bit of work outside. Am hoping for a good day tomorrow. the first priority will be to get round the lottie and get some veg harvested.

went down to check today,the soil was great for making pots in places and had the consistancy of soup in others,think I need 3-4 tons of manure to fill the raised beds a bit and improve the consistancy.

Most things look in pretty good nick at my place, except for the parsnips. The snow finished off the foliage, so I guess I'll have to wait for new greenery to shoot, as they're still quite small. Carrots were lovely though and worth waiting for (haven't been able to harvest for weeks and came DANGEROUSLY close to buying reduced supermarket ones, as I was craving em!).
