  • nibbled pea shoots

Back from a weekend away - all my mangetout peas ( about 1 ft high) have been nibbled ( pecked?) off at the tips . Will they recover???

That will be pigeons and/or sparrows. Mine have been had too. The peas will reshoot from the stem lower down, but it's very annoying

We've got plenty of pigeons AND sparrows in the garden, so I'll blame them. Glad to hear they're not complete gonners though. Thanks Two Sheds

I tend to put netting - the stiff stuff - around peas when they are just planted out. It's too stiff and close together for the birds to get stuck in but it keeps my peas going until they are too tough to temp the birds.

They were covered with a fleece tunnel till about 9 inches high. Thought they'd be safe by then, but no such luck!

Could be weevils then. Although they only usually crimp the edges, they don't munch the growing tip out.
