  • New Chilli Seeds

I've just purchased 3 different varieties of hot chilli seeds from ebay, for me to get started off early. Is it better to germinate the seeds on paper before potting, or is it just as easy to pot and see what happens? I've grown plenty of chilli plants before, but mainly Cayenne, which are quite easy to grow. These are Naga Jolokias, and Scotch Bonnets - do these require extra care to germinate?

I grew nagas and scotch bonnets etc last year.

I just put them straight into cells in heated prop.

    Easy!

I've found in the past many seeds off ebay are just Scotch Bonnets.

I've tried the paper in an airing cupboard before but I have far more success with just planting the seeds into compost and put them in a heated prop as Chilli_grower said. The problem with the paper towel trick is maintaining the right level of moisture, over water and the seeds rot, forget one day and they dry out.

The best way to ensure a high germination rate is to buy seeds from a nursery. I use Nicky's Nursery. They are more expensive but they have a wide variety of seeds and they are high quality as well.
