when will it be safe to remove the netting from my cabbages and cauliflowers, as the weeds are taking over and in need of weeding

Lift it, weed, replace it. The cabbage whites are only just starring to fly round here. Also, I put slug pellets down so I don't like my birds to have access and always re-net after weeding.

Not sure. I've got my leeks under netting because the pigeons pulled my new shoots out the day after I'd planted them!!

I have removed the netting temporarily to weed last week, but still daren't risk leaving the netting off.

Can anyone help us?

Cheers Flummery

I will keep the net over for a while then!

What do you use to peg the netting down?

Wilko sell 10 green netting pegs for 99p.

Or use bricks/length of wood.

I use fleece pegs beetie. I bought a long length of fleece some years ago - still using it, got my money's worth! It had yellow pegs with barbs on so they don't pull out as easy as they go in. Problems start when I roll up the old net and put it in a box with the pegs. Takes AGES to unpick them afterwards. They tangle themselves up when you aren't looking!

yes, i got fed up of untangling barbed pegs from netting, so now I use ordinary metal tent pegs...find loads of slightly bent ones on campsites
