    Need help re show stuff

    Right, I'm going for village domination this year in the vegetable show and need some advice please.
    The show is in the middle of July.

    Most of the stuff I am growing anyway, but these few things I am going to grow especially for the show.

    Carrots less than 5"........... the only one I can think of is Parmex, but advice needed.

    Broad beans............ not got any, is it too late?

    Coloured potatoes............. only planted white on the plot, I need one seed potato which I will put in a pot, any suggestions where to get one from and what to get?

    Shallots......... never grown them, I need ten pickling ones and 5 large ones, please advise, because I haven't got a clue

    Cauliflower, not sure I can be bothered trying to grow one of these, even for world, sorry village domination.

    Potatoess - The winners and runners up in our show for the 'coloured' section were Kestrel?! Not sure how that works, as they only have splashes of colour. But my Desiree were the only fully red ones entered!
    Broad beans - get some planted! If you don't then you definitely won't have any ready!
    Shallots, not sure if it isn't too late to buy em! If you can can find any, get them in quick

      That's one of the ones I have planted kestrel, Mmmm I would have thought they would be white potatoes.
      I might be alright on that then.

      How do I get small and large shallots?

      Off to get some stuff now, including broad bean seed.

        Witkeim Manita is a fast growing broad bean, in case you want to be sure of making it in time.

          for shallots, and this applies more to the ones you grow and then keep to sow next year....the smaller the shallot you plant the larger the shallot you will harvest.
          If I get the chance I will message you with information about my experience with showing / growing but bear with me

              Thanks everyone, I have showed before, last few years, just not gone all out to try to win everything, it's only a little village show, bit of fun. Till someone misinterprets the rules then sometimes someone can get upset not me!

              I've bought some shallots, about to put them in, do I water them? I can hardly believe I haven't grown them before tbh, they are all sizes in the bag, so I'm not sure what I'll get out at the other end......... I don't even know how they grow, I'd better go and have a look

              Bought and sown broad beans, although I think they won't be in time.
              Got the parmex carrot bed warming up in the sunshine, after removing cardboard and finding it was very cold soil.

              Decided as I thought I might, not to bother growing a cauliflower, I don't think anyone ever enters that class anyway.

                White potatoes must be totally white. Any splash of colour makes them coloured.
                Winston for the white potatoes and Kestrel or Blue Belle for the coloured class.

                  Shallots, you plant them and they divide and grow into a clump of shallots. So give each one enough space to grow a handful of shallots around it.

                  Cauliflower - if no-one enters that class, then you should! Much more chance of a place and points if there isn't much competition
                  Hence why I'll be entering the 'shortbread round' this year, if I'd done that last year I'd have had the 'most points in section' plate....

                    Thanks tattieman and sarz.
                    That's good to know about the potatoes, I did remember last year that the winning potatoes were kestrel, but I thought it was in the white category. One of the reasons I am growing them this year, they seem to do very well on our heavy soil and lots seem to grow them.

                    The shallots are in with about 7" between them.
                    I don't like entering stuff that no one else does, if I win I want to win fair and square otherwise it won't mean anything to me.

                    Last year I won the best veggie garden prize, but the same old boy that has won it for 20 years didn't enter, a very hollow victory
