at the local show I put in my tatties, salad blue , but this year we had a small amount of scab on each tuber so I got a second, its never been something that we have had around here, and after the best summer since 2006,the only difference this year was I never got the 6ins of seaweed on the bottom of the tub that I usually have as we were away at the usual time so it was a rush to get them planted, we did get a bumper crop though and it does look peculiar to see blue roasties, but the taste is magic....

Well done on getting second - i've never heard of using seaweed under potatoes. I might give that a go next year - although as i grow mine in bags it might get a bit whiffy as it rots down!

this is what gives jersey tatties their taste, i know as I lived there for some years in my youth, I put 6ins of seaweed in the bottom of the tub and place the tattie on top and put 6ins of soil/compost on that and keep topping up as required and no need of fertiliser, and it does make them taste better, as the seaweed is covered there is no smell off it, by the time we collect the tatties there is no sign of any seaweed. I use this compost for my melons the following year and the year after it goes onto the veg patch...
