  • My potatoes have arrived

My potatoes have arrived from tattieman, I nearly kept some back to eat, they look that nice.

Now I need to work out where to keep them, My shed is 10 by 8 with windows and the walls and been lined and a thick board lining the floor.

It is to cold to put them to chit and have loads at home chitting, could I put them in a hessian bag in the shed and cover with a quilt. My house is to warm just to leave them there.

How do others store their seed potatoes

    thanks

I put mine in egg boxes on the top of a wardrobe in the back bedroom.. we dont have it very warm in there unless our grandson comes to stop.. there is enough light to allow them to chit slowly

Store, or store for chitting? Bottom drawer of fridge if you didn't want to chit.. but, if I chit then it's the kitchen windowsil, or if not, a bedroom that's not heated (rads set to just above frost setting).

Still awaiting my new order, but still early yet. Have ordered Harlequin from JBA, plus a bag kit but can't remember which one.

If you don't want to chit yet (and it is rather early) then I always keep mine in the dark in hesian sacks in the frost free garage. If you want to chit then they need to be in the light so that the chits grow good and strong - I always use the conservatory.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

decision made, the potatoes I bought direct from Tattieman are chitting on the dinning room table, the potatoes I have bought from the allotment stores, also supplied by Tattieman will be chitted in the shed, as I can replace these if needed.
