  • My garlic looks like leeeks

I thought I'd seen a thread with this title on here but have failed to find it if there was.

So this is my February planted garlic which I planted in the coldest place I could find at the time, which was hard because February had swapped for June.

I know it's probably the hot temps that have caused this but what is the best thing to do with it now? I assume we can pull it up and use it in stir fry etc. Is it worth leaving in the ground though?

Or just point me to the thread I can't find! Thanks

Thanks, I checked that one out (and maybe that's what I was thinking of). No, my garlic really does look like leeks. Big, tall, green and about 1" across. really healthy just not what I put in the ground!

Step away from the garlic, put that fork down and have a bit of patience, it is normal for garlic to look like leeks the bulb is the last thing to appear, when the top starts to turn yellow and falls over is the time to have a look at your garlic, mine have been in the ground since last september and is still not ready yet.

Has the foliage started to droop yet? If not then be patient a bit longer, my garlic is usually left until the end of June/start of July before I start lifting any of it.

I planted my garlic in January and February. Harvested my first bulb today and it was okay.

The other garlic plants are still small though (I'm judging by the thickness of the stem, haven't checked the bulbs). They have all fallen over - due to the wind, not as a sign of maturity

Thank you. Advice taken. It's just that I have grown garlic in the dim and distant past and I don't remember it looking like this but I am happy to wait and see. I just didn't want to lose all chance of eating something!

I've got some garlic which I planted last autumn, and it's only just started going dried out, and hasn't even considered falling over yet (except where the &^^* dog keeps walking through it.. ). I've also got some which I plant so long ago I've forgotten when - probably last spring around April, so over a year ago! It wasn't ready to pick in the summer so it's still there, and only relatively recently began to look like garlic! Lol . I'm having to learn a lot more patience than I ever believed possible .

No garlic not drooping...will try and contain my excitment and leave it another few weeks.
