Last year, I grew the recommended Atlantic Giant variety (£3.50 per packet) and a cheaper Big Max variety (29p from Lidl).

The latter grew the bigger by quite some way!

I only fed the plants with tomato feed once a week.

      It is great fun.

I prefer edible pumpkins to enormous ones, but the chap on my site does em like this: massive pumpkin | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

I couldn't tell you what he feeds them though

thats what i have atlantic giant,i read somewhere feed them with a milk and sugar solution ie knock it up and put it in a bowl, cut a slice into the stalk and put a piece of wool into the slice and into the milk and just keep it topped up?
your guess is as good as mine.

Seem to remember the chap on "The Big Dig" last year fed his giant pumpkin on beer! He got his local pub to empty the slop trays into a bucket and gave it a couple of pints every other day or so.

Yep, he was that shape too. There are some huge pumpkins to be seen. I grew Atlantic Giant, but only to the size for decent Halloween Lanterns. The grandchldren loved them and I enjoyed the soup! I haven't the ground to be able to grow to that size, even given the secrets.
