    Miserable toms

    I planted my first toms in January and now some of them are looking pretty sorry for themselves. Here's the most pathetic one.



    What is wrong with him - is it simply because he was started too early? He's been on a windowsill which probabably gets full sun for two or three hours a day (when there is any sun, of course) and well watered. Can't remember the variety - some kind of cherry I think.

    Drowned i think - that compost looks very wet indeed.

      it doesn't look like it got much past two leaf stage, but I can't tell what size pot you've got it in, nothing to compare for scale. I think you'll have to sow more

        Got to agree, it looks as if they've been overwatered. Is that mould in the black pot?

              think of them as pigs. You can look after them and enjoy them for a bit, but then you have to be strong and eat them.

                If you ask two-sheds nicely, she will no doubt give you a run down on watering plants.

                    ....and certainly only from the bottom. I can't see that your plants are standing on saucers or anything, so I'm assuming you watered them from the top.

                            I did it last year with toms- combined error of buying cheap pots and forgetting to make sure there were enough holes in the base plus overwatering. Plenty of time to bung another load in

                              Hmmm i think i overwater far too much then as this usually happens to me as well.

                              How do you water from below, by having the pots in a tray and fill that with water?

                              When would you water? When the top looks dry?
