I have heard that these are very easy to grow, anyone suggest which varieties are good, any better than others? Do I need to plant now and do we know if they freeze?

They are lovely, but need to be picked as soon as they are ready, so it means visiting the lottie every day. Yes they do freeze well. -
Oragon Sugar Pod is a reliable mangetout. Sugar Snap, Sugar Bon and Sugar Anne are good snap peas. Sugar Snap grows a bit taller than the other two and will need some support.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

I've grown Sugar Snap peas for years and love them. One great feature is that they are useable over quite a period. Even at several days old with the peas fully developed they are still good ( you can string them as you pull the top off )
I now grow about six batches at 10 day intervals to crop over a long period.
They can be frozen but like French Beans they are never quite as goodComment

I too am trying Delikett snap peas. I am also going to try the Delikata mangetout from unwins this year. Ya just gotta try something different each year
Snaps do freeze well, but i've never tried freezing Mangetout, i heard that they go a little limp.
How true is that

I have grown Golden Sweet yellow-podded mange tout for the past couple of years and they are delicious and produce excellent crops. I was never one for eating raw vegetables (apart from salads) but I eat these straight off the plant.pjh75

Another vote for the Golden Sweet, really really tasty and productive. Tall plants which have beautiful purple flowers which make it look very decorative. Good to freeze too but not many of mine make it there.

I grow Oregan Sugar Pod mange tout, although the Golden Sweet looks absolutely gorgeous with the purple flowers! Is it a heritage variety, or can I get seeds from a bog standard garden centre?Comment

Golden Sweet has been regarded as heritage - it's the pea Mendel used in his experiments - but this year one of the big companies has registered it. Can't offhand remember which but if you google the pea name it will certainly come up! I grew them for the first but certainly not the last time last year.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

Think it's T&M that are selling it this year. I got mine a few years ago off Real Seeds and have been saving every since. No spares though as I gave them away to my brother, mum and a lottie neighbour.

The only problem with mangetout is that on the way from plant to kitchen, far too many of them disappear
