We grew 'Cara' potatoes our first year on the plot and, although the crops were huge and the individual potatoes were very large, we've never grown them again as they were the blandest flavoured potatoes I'd ever eaten. We've always grown 'Majestic' since then and they are lovely, but in the last couple of years crops have fallen off to almost nothing. I know the weather hasn't been wonderful, but even so I'm not risking growing them next year in case we have another small yield. So, what can I grow instead? Something which tastes good and has a reasonable yield is what I'm after.

Other than the sarpo varieties for blight resistance, I can highly recommend "Marfona".
It can be lifted as a second early or left in the ground as a maincrop. If left as a main crop it gives a fab yield of big potatoes that are ideal for roasting. Tis very tasty too. -
anybody got any suggestions for slug resistant varieties? they just love what ever i try to grow

Bluemoon you could try Pentland squire,pentland crown,record or desiree they should all be good croppers.

As already mentioned it's Kestrel for me again next year. They are slug resistant and gave me some lovely large tasty tatties! Valor and Sante have always been good for me - they are often recommended for organic growing because they have more disease resistance than most.Comment
