leggy tom plants ? I have some tom seedlings sprouting in my windowsill unheated prop. Some of them are about 1"-1.5" high before the first set of leaves (first leaves - not 'proper' ones yet). Are these too leggy ? Should I be worried that they've not had enough light ? The ones in question are mainly pomodoro.

I think the usual procedure is to wait until they have their first proper leaves then transplant them into the bottom of deeper pots lightly filling the pot with compost, you shouldn't have any problem as long as the stems are not damaged.
I you'st to have a handle on the world .. but it BROKE!!

ok - thanks. I'll keep an eye on them - I have plenty more seeds if required, and only need a few plants to 'make it' anyway.

If they are on the windowsill, tape a piece of white or silver card around the back of the propagator - it really does help reflect light back to the seedlings.

Before they form real leaves, they still can grow taller. Once they form 2 true leaves, pot them up into bigger pot and plant them deeper.

Wholeheartedly agree with cutecumber's card suggestion. I use contact adhesive to glue aluminium foil to the card and use it on the window sill with any type of containers that are small enough to sit there.

Top tip! Up and running with some white paper now - for the last few days the toms have been growing straight rather than bending to the light. They are looking good.
