  • Is it to late to plant out cabbages?

Hi, everybody only started growing veg last year, making space in the flower garden for veg plot, loved it so much invested in a greenhouse and this year loved it even more.

Still very much a novice reading everything I can get my hands on, but getting confused very easily (information overload I think)!!

Decided to plant some Hispi cabbage seeds beg sept so have several small plants now, but thought I should seek some advice rather than just experimenting (which was the plan).

Here we go, can I plant the cabbages outside now if so should they be a certain size? If not when do you recomend.
Also do I need to harden off before planting out?

I would've said yes, way too late, but this says you can keep them under glass for an early spring plant-out, then harvest early summer

Hi, glad I asked, my potential experiment was probably doomed to failure, haven't bought seeds from "this" particular website before it give great advice about each seed, have booked marked for future use. Thanks Two Sheds

Try a few outside but also keep a few inside then you'll be able to report back on your experiment.

If you have enough the inside ones could be cut as spring greens when there aint much fresh veg about and even used as a stir fry additive!

This might go against all the rules, but last year I sowed a few cabbage seed in my greenhouse in November. The greenhouse was kept frost free using an electric oil-filled radiator and bubble wrap. These plants were planted out in March and produced some lovely cabbages. The seed I sowed in the spring were rubbish!
