  • Komatsuna

    Komatsuna aka Japanese Mustard Spinach.
L1dl are selling Living Salads of Komatsuna with some Purple Pakchoi in the mix. Its about 85p for a punnet and there are lots of seedlings that would like to be thinned out and planted somewhere more spacious.

Thanks VC I've had a google and it sounds a lot like pac choi but without the bolting problem.
      Location....East Midlands.

It tastes quite mild/bland - like lettuce does. Think the flavour becomes stronger with age.
I'm going to try planting some out to grow BIG - see what happens

I've grown komatsuna from seed (it also comes in some of the mixed winter salad packets). It is pleasant enough to eat, very like pak choi, and I found it no less likely to bolt.

Good luck with it VC - I would love to be proved wrong, but I think that it is likely (like pak choi) to dislike being transplanted, and they may simply bolt when planted out. Worth a try though.

I've grown it from seed too, quite tasty but does bolt easily in summer. Works well in the tunnel over winter though

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I bought a similar batch from Lidl and am also going to plant mine out in a tray (hopefully this evening) - I decided to return my trolley to the shop though, to get my £1 back :-)

Don't want you to think I "nicked" it, Nick It was dumped outside my gate so I brought it in off the road for safety - and I'm minding it for a while I checked for £1 but it was empty
Wish I could get hold of some more - its brilliant!

It really is useful. I can wheel it into the sun. A bag of compost on its side fits perfectly. Cut the side off the bag and its ready to plant
                      I really would like more!
Some years back I found a trolley dumped in the woods so I pushed it all the way home, rang the supermarket and they took weeks to collect it and didn't even say thank you. I have no conscience about minding this one until its collected S'pose I'd have to tell them it was here first
