  • Jack Be Little Pumpkin

I haven't grown this before. It's doing well - growing in my little kitchen garden so have it trained over a couple of supports. There is one pumpkin at what I imagine is approaching full size; and about ten others at varying stages.

Should I halt any further growth do you think? I don't imagine that any new fruits now would have any chance of ripening. Also, do you think I have too many fruits on the plant to develop properly? They do seem to grow quite quickly, and I'm possibly being a bit quick off the mark, but would appreciate your thoughts.

p.s. Edited to include one more question - what are their storing properties like? I'd like to keep a few if possible. Do they store as well as full size varieties?

Sorry Rhona, I haven't got an answer for you but will be watching this thread with interest as I was going to post exactly the same question!

Can anyone help us with this?

Also, if we have to cut off some of the baby pumpkins that are developing, can they be eaten? Or do they only taste good when they reach adulthood?

      Any advice appreciated!

I am growing 'We Be Little' which I think is similar or maybe even smaller. I have already harvested 23 pumpkins from 4 plants and they are in a blow away maturing nicely. I have harvested by the colour of the skin, When they are a nice bright orange I have cut them off. There is quite a range of sizes the biggest being the size of both thumbs and forefingers formed into a ring. The skins feel really firm so they should store for most of the winter. I have already used one, so use as required. Will definitely be growing them again next year.
