with moving my main greenhouse in the spring I never got round to sowing a lot of my seeds, so I had to buy in some seedlings, the result, whitefly on all the bought in young plants (bought from a large garden centre) and after over 3 weeks of spraying with soapy water ,today I had to bite the bullet and buy some insecticide, the first time in over 25yrs. next year it will be my seeds used after giving the greenhouses a good scrub and disinfectant and a good riddance to outside reared greenhouse plants..

I prefer slugs to whitefly....only just! Last year was absolutely terrible especially on my sprouts, tried spraying but seemed resistant....you have my sympathy. Good luck in managing them

Whitefly is dreadful down here this year, too which is the first time in five years it's been a problem. The ladybird and hoverfly larvae are not pulling their weight yet! Everything raised from seed, too.

I wouldn't mind but even in the house it is so cold we have to keep putting the heating on, so them there flies must have antifreeze for blood or big woolly jumpers....

Loads of pests around here too but whitefly isn't particularly noticable, and neitehr are slugs and snails. I've had loads of aphids, which got on the land cress I was keeping indoors, so that had to go out. They are all over the white currant shoots, and I found several flying ones on the spinach I brought in for tea.

Caterpillars have been around all year, most of them anonymous green ones which could be any number of moth larvae. I found a distinctive magpie moth caterpillar on the currant bush yesterday which makes a change from sawflies.

I've also had a serious red spider mite problem on the greenhouse strawberries, for which I got some preadatory mites as biological control. Too soon to say if they have been effective, but I didn't want my cucmbers, melons and peppers to go the same way as the strawberries.

The other thing there has been a lot of this year is cuckoo spit. I'm used to seeing the odd blob of it around, but this year its on about half of the strawberry fruits, and when you wipe it off there are 3 or 4 froghoppers inside instead of the usual 1 or 2. I don't mind froghoppers, but I would rather they went and made their bubbles on something I don't want to put in my mouth!

Same here. Black fly every where, flowers, courgettes and my spinach. Nibbled lettuces from slugs and snails. Even found baby slugs on a leaf. How dare they!
