  • iPlayer - Harvest anyone?

We can't get iPlayer over here and I just wondered if someone could please check up on something for me????

    BBC2

On the spud programme the other evening, they mentioned- just when they were talking about burning off the tops of the haulms what the difference was between a salad potato and a new potato.

I think I know the difference- but wondered if someone could check for me ????

I'm thinking a salad is a variety and a new potato is a later variety which has been dug up when small and not left in the ground to skin up????

Typical that I said something just at the most interesting bit..and missed it.
Gregg mentioned he hadn't realised what the difference was ....was it something astoundingly different from what I thought?

    Also-

Kirk has asked a question about haulms from the same part of that programmme....

"Either didn't catch or they didn't say how long the potatoes remained in without greenery, guess 2 or 3 weeks. If anyone has/uses iPlayer worth a check ".

can anyone answer this question too please????

    ta muchly!

I'm sure they said using a desiccant on one of the crops to enable them to harvest... Oh the oil seed rape..

You have to consider the scale of crop and use of slug remover too if you're thinking about leaving spuds in the ground.

I think you are spot on Nic:
"Salad potatoes are firm to the bite and are great for a quick, easy and healthier dish. Taste delicious boiled, steamed or roasted whole in their skins. A typical salad variety would be Charlotte or Maris Peer"
New potatoes are as you say just immature potatoes of any variety.

It's an interesting program (if you know nothing about farming) but it has Greg Wallace on there and, just as on MC he SHOUTS all the time - I think he may be deaf...

basically your computer once it is hooked up to the net has,,,,,,,,,,,lets call it a postcode (this is your ip adress) so if you hide your postcode with an ip cloaker , which is something you can get off the net, i dont have one as i dont watch a great deal of tv and if i do miss something then,,,,,,,,,ill find a way to watch it! but having a cloaker opens up quite a few other doors too, i use the forum anglo info over here which is for us expats and has info and small adds on there and discussions and when you register it isnt your name or email or password that gets registered , it is your ip adress, so if you get banned because of,,,lets say,, an argument with some people who believe no one should sell puppys and everyone should adopt, (yup, happened to me you can just reregister whereas if your ip wasnt hidden you wouldnt be able to, hope this makes more sense now, iv just had a quick squinternet session and you can get some cloakers for free and some to buy? i use : letmewatchthis to watch almost any film or tv series that was/is popular?

Streaming providers are getting wise to bouncing your requests off foreign countries dns servers - Nicos if you want to watch things like up layer, you'll need a VPN hosted in the UK (costs). Or a proxy server - "socks" or "http" are the most common. You may be able to find a free proxy server, but it maybe slow.

Not sure which method Betty is on about - but VPN or proxy are the key words you'd need to know if you wanted to look into it.
