  • Im not quite sure what these are

after many attempts of trying to grow my own chillies from seeds and the cat constantly eating them when they get a couple of cm's tall i went to focus on the weekend and bought a plant called capsicum salsa.... im guessing this isnt the correct name for it as capsicum is the thing in the chili that gives it heat and salsa is a dip. im guessing they are hungarian hot chillies but does anyone else have any ideas? plus id need to know how long id need to leave the already 1inch fruits on there before i cut them for eating?

    many thanks

Hi johndaone, welcome to the Vine.

Capsicum is actually a genus of flowering plants which happens to include Chillies. Capsaicin is what makes Chillies hot.

You're attached picture isn't showing up, so can't help with the id. What colour are the Chillies on your plant?

How apt that Capsid beat me to the punch

Do be careful - I'm not sure if this is an edible one or not. Lots of annual chillies are sold as houseplants esp by places like Homebase.

Never mind. Start again with seed in the spring. Start them off in individual small pots in a small electric propagator on the windowsill around March. By the way, could you add your location to your profile please. That way it will show up on your posts and save us having to keep asking where you are.
