i went to check my pumpkins......... i turned two of them but they snapped off the vine grrrrr one looks ripe but the other still has green, i have put them into someones green house...... the guy thinks that it will ripen,...... my mum says what about wrapping newspaper round it........ any advice i dont want to lose it. they will be nice for october.

Been a few threads about this recently. Bring them inside, on a sunny windowsil (heh, maybe I should say south facing for a cloudy exposure!) - or in a greenhouse so they can stay dry.. then they'll be able to ripen/cure. -
We've ripened 'green' pumpkins to orange in our hallway before now, ready for Halloween. So long as they're somewhere warm and dry then you should be ok.

P.S. We currently have a large orange one, on bricks in the greenhouse as well because I had to remove it from the vine when I realised a mouldy leaf was starting to cause a problem on the pumpkin skin. The problem appears to have dried up and the fruit is still turning an even deeper orange. I will move it into the hall tomorrow or Tuesday becasue rain is forecast and the greenhouse will get a little damp/humid.Comment

my two pumpkins are too big for the windowsil and i havent got a hallway so shall i take them out of the green house in the allotment and bring them home and hyst stand them somewhere? i can put them outside everyday if nice and sunny what do you think????Comment

As long as it's dry and frost free, I don't really think it matters where you put it. If it gets wet it'll go rotten, and if it gets hit by a frost it'll go mushy inside (as far as I'm aware)
So yeah, a spare room, or on the work top somewhere I'd have thought would be perfectly fine.Comment

The wet at this time of the year wont rot pumpkins, I have mine on a plank of wood out on the lottie and they are ripening lovely. Make sure they are dry and inside before the frosts arrive.

well i had to harvest 4 of the pumpkins today as the plant was just dying off...... im very proud of them.....JUST one thing, one of the vines came off the pumpkin (and i know your supposed to keep them on) will it be ok? im praying people will say yes as that one is the main one for halloween.........any replies will be great thank you xxxxxComment
