...if only he would be specific about how he gets rid of slugs! Last year Monty Don described in detail how he attracts snails and then "disposes of them". I went looking for information on his method of "disposal". His website was (and still is) "under construction"! So I resorted to contacting the gardening section of the BBC and no matter how clearly I put my query they could not/would not tell me how Monty Don "disposes" of his slugs. Their suggestions (not Monty's) were put them in the waste or take them away from the home and dump them - neither of which I really want to do. So how do people get rid of their slugs?
Anyway, another point about our deal old Monty is that he seems to be getting into quite a lot of hot water. Last year he got embroiled in a row about non-organic gardening. He insists on getting rid of pests by hand (by squashing them, I guess) and does not advocate pesticides. The pesticide companies were up in arms about it, as was the BBC who promised that he would be encouraged to recommend pesticides - which he won't!
He was also criticised this year by growers, for telling viewers not to plant out their early flowers in this cold weather. They complained they had to dump lorry loads of plants because no-one was buying them. His advice, of course, was right.
Who'd have thought that such a nice guy would come under such pressure. This never happened to Alan Titchmarsh - did it...?
My questions are (a) how do you get rid of slugs and (b) who do you prefer - Monty or Alan?
