  • I can see soil !!

Although it's been very cold up here we didn't have as much snow as other parts of the country and now it's all gone and I can see lovely brown soil again.

Most of the crops seem to have suffered no lasting damage from the severe frosts, even the pak choi which I was worried about is perking up. Some of the big leaves on the chard are looking bedraggled but there's plenty of smaller leaves to pick from. It just goes to show how resilient plants are, not like us humans. We were without hot water from the boiler for a day and a half and it made life very difficult....aren't we pathetic

We had ice first thing, but the temp rose to a balmy 7c. We can see pavements again

What snow we had is gone, no frost this am, but ground still rock hard. And our bags of compost you could break the flags with em!!!

Still snow everywhere. The mainroads are clear but all side roads dangerous and all fields and open ground still deep in snow. Won't be doing any gardening for a while until it all melts and more freezing weather on the way. Will just have to keep looking at the seed catalogues and look forward to the spring to come.

The snow and ice have more or less gone from here too, for now. I was hoping for a muck delivery this weekend to take advantage of the thawed ground, but looks like it's not coming. So it might end up being stacked, not spread (because if it's spread on frozen ground, it can trap the cold in and work against you in the long run, but, you all know that I'm sure )

Certainly thawing here, but the road up to the main road is a nightmare! Nearly took my exhaust off yesterday! It'll just have cleared when we get the next lot at the end of the week

I tried jogging, but I couldn't keep the ice in my glass.

I've just been up the lotty and the collapsed chard has all perked back up. The violas are blooming, and there're clouds of midges over the grass - well it did reach the balmy heights of 6c today in the sunshine

I popped up to the lottie today and was able to dig up some parsnips and leeks, before the next cold spell. Carrots were frozen as they'd been planted in a huge bucket, so only some of the beds and ground defrosted.

Prior to going to the lottie I also hung out some sheets and towels, not been able to do that for weeks.

It felt lovely to be outside and able to have a little look around the garden and lottie. No sunshine, but not too cold either.

went down the lottie for some veg for my blind pal. He has not been out the house for 2 weeks as his guide dog just wants to play in the snow and not work. Took him a stalk of sprouts, some kale and a couple of small swedes. I could see the cabbages but as the soil up the top where they are is squelchy decided to leave them for a few days.
Looked at the xmas tatties in the greenhouse in my back garden and the sacks are solid blocks. dont think they will be any good.

We've only got a bit of snow left in the garden, so its nice to see my kale and cabbages again.
