  • How are your Sweetcorn doing?

Failed miserably last year with sweetcorn but they're doing well this year and some tassels are forming nicely. How is everyone getting on with theirs? Any cobs yet?

    Cobs!!! Not yet.

I put mine in a tad later - obviously. I lost a load to wind last year so didn't want to take any chances.

My first batch are going great guns - thickening up nicely.

No cobs yet, but 13 2ft tall healthy (touch wood) looking plants. Would have been 16 but the last batch of seedlings I got from Homebase were cr*p, only 1 has survived.

Got tassles on mine. I grew from seed this year. I bought seedlings last year which grew well until the wind and rain got them! The few cobs that we did get were good tho'.

I always sow mine late, so I don't expect cobs until September, but they're doing well and I usually get a lovely crop just when we're getting fed-up of everything else.

Second week in May 36 from 48 seeds germinated in moist kitchen roll, 24 planted into loo roll tubes, 16 grew but room for 9 only in veg bed, these were put in place three weeks ago. Not much taller but significantly thicker stems. Still only about 10-12 inches tall but still hopeful.

I seem to have no trouble germinating them, just getting them to grow is the problem. I've got so many still in small pots I didn't have room for that are as big as the ones I planted out a few weeks ago! Still, it's only June so hopefully they will take on Triffidic tendencies soon

Mine are about 10 inches high, but I'm not sure about the ground they're growing in. It seems to be rock hard underneath, had to break it up a bit to plant something else in there, so hopefully, they'll be ok with it, and next year it'll have some more compost mixed in.

Mine are looking good. Tassles out the top and cobs with tassles out the sides - 2 per plant so far - so I'm hopeful for a decent crop.
I did start them early - maybe about a month too early - and had to keep them in the conservatory when they were quite big. I'll know for next year.
