    From Dr. H:

Main-crop potatoes: rows 30" apart, seed tuber planting interval 15", 5" deep

Depth no problem. 15" between tubers is fine for maincrop and 27" between the drills. Source, my late departed father and his antecedents. fathers are the best source of information. They have been there and done it when it mattered.

I was told 1ft apart and 2foot between rows. The first year I actually took a tape measure with me!

These distances work fine with earlies. Later varieties do better with more room. I have a piece of wood with various distances marked on it, from 9" up to 27" in 3" stages. Lies around my allotment till I need it but it is very handy.

Anthony, they will grow, just grow better with more space.

You are quite right, and I was planting earlies. That will teach me to read the OP properly

Easy mistake to make.. I would have suggested you space the distance between your spuds using your feet but I have no knowledge of the size of hobbits feet.

Small, very very small, and the fur gets in the way
